Early Summer | Bloom

The vineyard is entering one of the most important moments of the growing season.

Bloom is now progressing across the Eigner Estate, marking the transition from spring growth into the formation of this year's crop. Despite a challenging stretch of weather, the vines continue to move forward with strength and balance.

Over the coming days, our focus shifts to the detailed work that defines great vineyards long before harvest arrives.

Shoot thinning is nearing completion across the estate. Montepulciano, the last block to finish pushing its secondary shoots, is now ready for its final pass. This work helps create balance within the vine, directing energy toward the strongest shoots and future fruit.

The canopy is also beginning to take shape. Riesling has already had its catch wires raised, while the Grüner Veltliner block is next in line. Recent storms left their mark in a few areas, requiring additional cleanup and careful shoot positioning. These small adjustments may seem simple, but they play a critical role in creating airflow, sunlight exposure, and overall vineyard health throughout the season.

This week we will also collect petiole samples for laboratory analysis. These tests provide a detailed picture of vine nutrition and help guide decisions that support fruit quality in the months ahead.

For now, the vineyard carries the familiar look of early summer. The vines are growing quickly, and before the final rounds of thinning, tucking, and canopy work are complete, things can appear a bit untamed. It is a brief stage in the season—one where growth often outpaces order.

Soon enough, the rows will settle into their summer form.

Every season has its moments of beauty. Bloom is one of them. Not because it is dramatic, but because it quietly signals possibility. The work happening now will shape the character of the wines long before a single grape reaches the cellar.
